Breast Care

Breast care is something most women think begins and ends with a breast examination and/or a mammogram. The truth is, most women worry about their breasts, especially if they experience chronic or intermittent breast pain, or if they have breast cancer in their family. What most women don’t realize is that most breast pain is caused by a build-up of metabolic congestion in the tissue. And, I know, the argument that immediately forms on women’s tongues as soon as I say this, is “no, it’s hormonal, it only happens (or is worse) just before or during my period.”

The truth is that glands in the breasts are target tissues of the female hormonal system and during the menstrual cycle the glands will swell, and there is often a higher level of fluid retention, which can cause extra weight in the breasts, this is normal hormonal activity and should not cause pain. When there is a local build-up of metabolic waste this will increase water retention and cause additional pain and tenderness in the tissue. But these are only words and it is results that make the best progression in a line of thinking.

In most cases I win this argument by demonstrating how effective breast massage can be. And, usually in a single session of regular breast massage, the breast pain is gone and gone for an extended period of time. Besides the direct effect of pain reduction, it helps to move women’s thinking about the state of their breast health in the direction of maintenance and self care. The relief from chronic breast pain is also a great relief to the mind. Worry is negative energy focused on a site or situation, and for those who subscribe to the idea that energy follows thought, there are better ways to spend your energy.

In some cases the breasts are particularly fibrous, which predisposes the body to collect metabolic waste, as the fibrous webbing acts as a net and captures some of the larger molecules initially, eventually being followed by smaller molecules, creating a situation where congestion builds up more quickly, and compacts more solidly. In these cases the metabolic waste is more concretely anchored to the tissue and more than one session is needed, and sometimes it requires the use of castor oil packs and or the Lymphatic Recovery Technique to dislodge the build-up of metabolic waste. Castor oil has been used historically to render the lymph more fluid and to increase the lymphatic drainage. It also has a well earned history as a treatment in diminishing scar tissue and tumors. Regular use of castor oil packs help to reduce the build-up of fibrous tissue, which is just another name for scar tissue or connective tissue. It is important to understand that when toxic build up occurs in the body it often leads to a local build-up of connective/scar/fibrous tissue, in an attempt to wall off the contaminants from the healthy tissue. The connective tissue not only impedes the lymphatic drainage and the elimination of local toxins, but also impedes circulation in general, starving the tissue of healthy oxygenated blood, which is how the healthy tissue is fed nutrients. Proper drainage and healthy circulation is necessary for all tissues, if they are to remain healthy. The relationship between fibrous breasts and metabolic waste is direct, one can create the other, although some women are predisposed to fibrous breasts. In a recent discussion on this subject with Maria Monti, of the Healthy Bra Company, Maria pointed out that women with small fibrous breasts are vulnerable to issues surrounding breast care because the ribbing texture of the fibrous tissue and the lack of fatty tissue, can make it difficult to detect underlying tissue anomalies. Castor oil packs and the Lymphatic Recovery Technique can help to diminish fibrous tissue and these women should definitely, as should most women, consider regular breast drainage, as the breasts are impeded in their self-drainage by the fibrous nature of the tissue.

Breast massage (approximately 20 minutes) can be included as part of any regular massage, or it can be added on to a full regular massage for an additional $15.

Breast massage alone is available as a 30-minute treatment for $40; breast massage with castor oil packs takes roughly 40 minutes and costs $60.
